Product Description

Each tablet contains dihydrochloride cetirizină10 mg and excipients: core - lactose monohydrate, maize starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, talc, magnesium stearate film - hypromellose (E 15), talc, propylene glycol, titanium dioxide (E 171 ). Pharmacotherapeutic group: Antihistamines for systemic use, piperazine derivatives.

Therapeutic indications
Adults Symptomatic treatment of allergic diseases: - Respiratory - seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis; - Skin - allergic skin manifestations accompanied by itching and rashes, especially hives; - Eye - conjunctivitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. Children over 6 years Symptomatic treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and urticaria.

Hypersensitivity to cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any of the excipients. Renal failure.

Because lactose content, Alerid is not recommended in cases of congenital galactosemia, lactase deficiency and malabsorption of glucose and galactose.


So far there are no known interactions with other medications cetirizine. Although studies have shown that the effect of alcohol is potentiated by cetirizine, however, it is recommended to avoid alcohol consumption while taking Alerid. Necessary caution and reduce daily dose in patients with renal and hepatic impairment. Children Cetirizine is effective and well tolerated in children over 6 years. In children under 6 years is recommended for age-appropriate formulations. Elderly In the elderly, cetirizine is excreted more slowly and therefore sometimes need dose adjustment in elderly patients.

Pregnancy and lactation
Studies in animals have shown teratogenic effects. Pregnant women were not studied specifically. As a precaution, Alerid is not recommended during pregnancy. Although cetirizine is excreted in breast milk in small amounts, its use is not recommended in nursing mothers.

Ability to drive or operate machinery

Dosage and Administration

The product is intended for adults and children over 6 years. It is recommended that be done in a single dose at bedtime. Adults and children over 12 years: The usual dose is one tablet Alerid (10 mg cetirizine) per day. Children aged 6 to 12 years: The usual dose is 1 tablet Alerid (10 mg cetirizine) per day, single dose or in 2 doses. Alerid not be used in children under 6 years (because of formulation). 

Side effects

Occasionally reported mild and transient side effects such as headache, sedation (especially in children, sleepiness), dizziness, dry mouth and gastrointestinal discomfort.

In case of overdose symptoms may appear as restlessness and irritability followed by drowsiness. Like other H1 antihistamines, cetirizine has no antidote. In case of overdose, it is recommended emesis, perform gastric lavage, symptomatic and supportive properly.

Do not use after expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not store above 25 ° C, in original packaging. Keep out of reach of children.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives, skin rash, troubles with breathing, troubles with swallowing and tightness of the chest.

Cetirizine was first available by prescription only but is now available as an over-the-counter medication. It is available under the name Zyrtec in the United States and Reactine in Canada.

Alerid is also available with a decongestant called pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. Alerid with a decongestant are marketed with the same brand name but has a -D as the suffix, such as Zyrtec-D. Alerid comes in syrup form as well as chewable and non-chewable form.

Besides Zyrtec and Reactine, other names that are used under the Alerid brand name include Alatrol, Cetzine, Histazine, Humex, Zodac, Zynor and Zyllergy.
